The second vote
On Saturday, June 23, 1956 the residents of Lisle who
resided in the proposed area of incorporation went out to the polls to vote on
the issue of incorporation for the second time. Since the first vote in 1952,
the Committee for the Incorporation of Lisle led many educational initiatives
to inform the residents of the potential benefits of incorporation. The issue
was now in the hands of the residents of Lisle.
On June 25, 1956 an article appeared in the Chicago Tribune confirming that the residents of Lisle passed the vote to incorporate as a village. The results of the vote were 606 to 289. The now incorporated area consisted of a 1.1 square mile area with an estimated population of 2,500 residents. The original area of incorporation was bounded by the DuPage River and Yender Avenue on the West; Maple Avenue on the South; Meridian and Chelsea on the East; and Warrenville Road, Oldham, and Middleton on the North. As of June 23, 1956 Lisle was no longer a part of Lisle Township as it was incorporated as the Village of Lisle. Lisle was to remain under township rule until they could create their own government and hold elections for elected officials.
